"Sweet Home Alabama" és, sense cap mena de dubte, la cançó més coneguda i significativa del grup de rock "sureny" nord americà Lynyrd Skynyrd.

La cançó es va publicar a l'abril de 1974 dins el segon disc del grup, "Second Helping", i al juny del mateix any es va publicar com a senzill.

La cançó, que es reconeix des del primer "rif" de guitarra i que té uns cors que fan difícil de no sumar-s'hi, amaga la història d'una certa desavinença entre els membres d'aquesta banda de rock del sud dels estats Units amb el cantant canadenc Neil Young.

"Sweet Home Alabama" és, de fet, una resposta a les cançons "Southern Man" i "Alabama" de Neil Young, cançons que parlen dels anys d'esclavitud al sud i de la necessitat de refer el mal causat...

Les cançons de Neil Young es van publicar els anys 1970 i 1972 respectivament...
