Al 1974 "Earth, Wind & Fire" encara no havien arribat al seu particular setembre, "September", el seu gran èxit, va arribar quatre anys després, però aleshores, fa 40 anys, ja era un grup plenament consolidat i preparat per esdevenir un dels grups referents de la música soul, disco, rythm'blues i pop.
Grup format a finals dels anys '60 del segle passat va tenir, especialment entre la segona meitat dels anys '70 i els principis dels '80, la seva època daurada, tot i que segueixen encara en actiu i publicant discs!
L'any 1974 "Earth, Wind & Fire" va publicar el seu cinquè disc d'estudi, "Open Our Eyes", el primer en assolir el número 1 a les llistes americanes de discs de "Rhythm and Blues".
La segona cançó del disc, la que destaquem avui, és "Devotion", una cançó amb una sonoritat molt reconeixible, tot i que amb un ritme un xic més pausat comparada, per exemple, amb la ja mencionada "Setpember", amb "Let's Groove" o la cançó que obre "Open Our Eyes", "Mighty Mighty".
"Devotion" és, com ja s'intueix amb el títol, molt espiritual...
